Topic: Discovery and Renewal on the Huffman Prairie
As the spring season starts, it is the time to think of green, growing, and flowering plants. While Huffman Prairie and the Wright brothers are synonymous, Huffman Prairie in the 1830’s was a place of discovery where botanists found and identified new prairie plant species. Huffman Prairie was first mapped in 1803 by Colonel Israel Ludlow and his team of surveyors.  Today, Huffman Prairie continues to be home to diverse native flora and fauna. The prairie owes its initial survival to the Wright Brothers, who made the area famous, and its continued survival to the conservators who work to renew and maintain this incredibly interesting area.  Mr. Nolin will walk us through the history of the prairie from its 1800’s surveying to the ongoing effort to continually renew and sustain the Huffman Prairie. Please wear a mask to this in-person eventTo keep up-to-date on any changes, registration is requested. Thank you!
