At this “mobile library on wheels,” residents can apply for a library card or check out books on the spot at upcoming community events:

The concept of a “mobile library” came from Mary L. Titcomb in the form of a 1904 horse-drawn wagon “bookmobile,” pioneering an innovative approach to library outreach.
Wright Library first introduced its Book Peddler at the 2018 “That Day in May” community event. It was designed and created by local residents Bill Rieger and Stephen Wright. Rieger, a bicycle enthusiast and Wright Library patron, designed the graphics while Wright, the great nephew of the Wright Brothers, completed the woodwork of the book cabinet that attaches to the bike. The upgrade supports Wright Library’s commitment to literacy and community engagement, and is made possible through on-going donations made to the Wright Library Foundation.

WRIGHT LIBRARY’S BOOK PEDDLER GETS AN ELECTRIC BOOST
(Spring 2024) Wright Library is taking its services on the road this summer and is excited to introduce a new upgrade to its iconic Book Peddler. Thanks to grant funding from the Wright Memorial Public Library Foundation through generous donations from Enterprise Roofing and the Wright Library Book Pedalers Cycling Team for the Dayton Tour de Gem, the Wright Library Book Peddler is now powered by a Cannondale Adventure Neo 4 Electronic Bicycle and equipped with an iPad, scanner, and Mobile Hot Spot.
