Summer slide is a popular term that refers to learning loss that occurs while kids are on summer vacation. Wright Library's Summer Reading Challenge is a fun and interactive way to encourage reading and learning throughout the summer months.
4 Alternatives to the Summer Slide
Summer Reading Challenge - Reading is essential for building happy, healthy minds, and your library is here to help! We have incentives to encourage your child to read every day including fun quests and prizes. Reading just a few minutes a day earns you prizes all summer long and makes you a part of Oakwood’s reading community. Don’t forget, parents, there’s Summer Reading Challenge for you, too!

Use a new resource - Get your kiddos reading galore with Tumblebooks! With your Wright Library card, you have free access to this easy-to-navigate database of read-along books. Try volunteering- Does your child or teen love books and want to share them with others? Join the Teen Advisory Board or become a Teen Volunteer to connect with your community and library. Motivate a reluctant reader with Book Buddies! Wright Library will pair childrens grades K-3 with “Big Buddies”—specially trained Teen Volunteers who will set up weekly in-person or digital meetings with their “Little Buddies.”
